Ok, we all know why we are here: you like makeup, I like makeup, especially when it’s cheap AND good. Let’s review some NYX products.

Butter Lipstick (shade 28 Heat Wave)

Retails for $6.50

The shade Heat Wave is a deep pink red with blue undertones (not sure that shows on the picture or the website).

Pros: it DOES feel like butter. Even the swatch on the picture shows how creamy it is. That buttery consistency makes the lipstick very easy to apply and super comfortable to wear.

The only disadvantage about it being so creamy is that it’s not going to stay put as much as a matte or liquid matte would. I did the ice-cream test (by that I mean that I put the lipstick on and stuffed my face with ice cream, as you should in the summer) and it moved around very quickly. As a matter of fact, I ate half of it.

The Border Collie transfer test

Totally transfers.

So, this is a very comfortable, pigmented, pleasant lipstick, but keep in mind that you’ll have to re-apply, especially if you’re going to eat or kiss dogs.

Vivid Brights liners

Retail price: $7.00

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from these eyeliners. I thought “Meh, cheap colourful liners. How gimmicky.” Why did I buy them? Because I have this weird fetish for blue eye products, which I’ve already rambled about in my Patrick Starrr x MAC collab and MAC Rockin’ Rebel eyeshadow palette reviews. Blue fetish + compulsive buying habits.

Anyways, I was wrong. These liners surprised me in the most positive way. They’re really good value and I think they make for great summer looks.

Pros: application is easy, tip is precise, the product doesn’t bleed nor dries too fast, it dries matte and doesn’t budge (wore the blue one to a concert last night, it’s the only makeup I had left when I got home)

Cons: I find the green one very misleading because the product is darker and much less neon than the packaging. This is the only negative thing I have to say about these liners.

I’m actually thinking of picking up the yellow and the orange one because I think I’m that cool.

Jumbo Eye Pencils

retail price: $3.50 – $4.50

Pros: Like most eye pencils, these are great for a quick and easy “apply and you’re out the door” sort of makeup.

Cons: I don’t find them to be very pigmented once applied on the eyelid and they tend to crease on me after a while. I find the Rimmel Scandal’eyes eyeshadow sticks better quality and they are in the exact same range of prices.

  1. Love the little board that you use for your swatches! I always have the hardest time taking color swatch photos, so I hope you don’t mind if I try a similar method!! ☺️
