My quest for the best concealer on earth: MAC Pro Longwear concealer review

I believe that everyone has a purpose in life and I know that mine is to find the best concealer on earth. I’ve tried DOZENS of them, especially the most hyped concealers on YouTube and in the blogging community. See my review of the Revolution Beauty concealer (supposedly a dupe for Tarte Shape Tape).

Practical info

Price: $24.00

Where to find it: on MAC’s website

Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Water, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Butylene Glycol, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Tribehenin, Magnesium Sulfate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Methicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Laureth-7, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Sorbic Acid [may contain] (CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491/CI 77492/CI 77499/Iron Oxides).

Claims: lightweight, full coverage, 15-hour wear, water and transfer resistant, for all skin types, fragrance free, non-acnegenic.

The positives

Application: it’s really lightweight and easy to blend, with a brush or beauty sponge. I personally apply the smallest amount, spread it and blend it with a concealer brush, and then perfect the application with a Beauty Blender. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way.

Coverage: it does live up to expectations. It’s full coverage and will cover dark circles and blemishes without looking cakey and without creasing.

Staying power: excellent, I haven’t worn it for 15 hours straight yet, but I’ve tested it for 8 hours several times and it didn’t move.

The negatives

Scent: it is fragrance free, but it has a slight smell of alcohol.

The pump: it dispenses way too much product (probably twice the amount needed, as far as I’m concerned) and a lot of it goes to waste. I know that I’m going to run out much more quickly than I would if I could control the amount of product that comes out.

The first picture shows how much is dispensed and the second one show how much I need under one eye.

My final thoughts

This is, by far, the best concealer that I’ve tried and I already know that I’ll repurchase as soon as it runs out (soon, because of the pump).

It doesn’t leave my under eye area dry or cakey looking or greasy and creasing (I’ve experienced all of these with other concealers) and it does a good job of covering and staying on all day/night.

      1. It’s amazing! I have deep under eye circles and I use the urban decay peach color corrector and then the Kat Von D! It’s a great combo no creasing and stays in place! (I have super oily skin)

      2. I’m the opposite, I have dry skin. But my under eye circles are a hot mess! I’ll definitely have to try this combo. I’m currently using the Tarte Shape Tape and so far so good! Kat Von D seems to have great products. Gotta give them a chance! Thank you for the recommendation 😊💛

      3. Yes, I apply the concealer with my beauty blender – damp. So, far it’s been great! It’s I have to try the foundation – didn’t know if it would be as good as the Shape Tape Concealer! 🙌🏽😊 I find it difficulty to find concealers and foundations that are good on dry skin – that’s me! 🙄

      4. Oh I never tried it with a damp beauty blender, I’ll give that a shot. Shape Tape has a hydrating foundation, a few of my friends tired that one and loved it. It’s not heavy either! 😁

      5. Yes, either run the beauty blender under water and squeeze the excess water out or spray some primer water on it. I spray the Smashbox photo finish primer water on my beauty blender, works great! Spray it as you continue to apply your concealer. And after I’ve done my makeup, I’ll spray it again around my face. Allows the makeup to last! 🙌🏽

  1. Great review. I think I’m always on the quest for a great concealer. I’m currently using the Tarte Shape Tape – been using it for about 3 months and it really does live up to all the hype! Worth the investment! I have under eye dark circles that many concealers are just too light weight for and this has worked great 🙌🏽💛

      1. I’ve never tried their makeup. Maybe if you have someone in the states, you can get it through them. Perhaps the shipping would be less. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve just heard about them through YouTube reviews.
